Femmage Zine is an independent, Atlanta-based multimedia publication focused on elevating the voices of women, queer individuals, and other marginalized identities founded in January 2025 by Skylar “Blue” Sanders.
We’re committed to providing a safe haven for those whose stories often go unheard, offering a platform to explore, critique, and create outside the mainstream narrative.
Our goal is simple: to give a voice to the overlooked, to push boundaries, and to hold space for diverse perspectives. Through thoughtful analysis, creative work, and in-depth conversation, Femmage Zine digs into the issues that affect our communities and how we navigate the complexities of the world we live in.
Femmage Zine is not just a publication — it's a space for both contributors and readers to engage, reflect, and be seen.

Our name is inspired by the late feminist artist Miriam Schapiro, whose work explores themes of identity and conformity. In a series of photographs taken in the 1970s, Schapiro explores the “decorative”, which she dubbed “the dirtiest word” due to its superficial and ornamental connotations.
Her conception of femmages draws parallels between gendered aesthetics and the marginalization of the female body, placing it at the forefront as a commentary on the exclusion and dismissal of women. It utilizes mediums historically associated with “women’s work”, a statement on the power of art forms that women throughout the history of humanity have indulged in – and that the fine art world refused to accept as legitimate.
Schapiro’s femmages and broader body of work serve as a reminder of how often our narratives are written for us by those in positions of power, particularly for those in marginalized and oppressed communities. Stumbling upon her creations led to the naming of our publication — it is an homage to a pioneering artist who was unwavering in her desire to push the envelope, dedicating her life to opening the door for women artists in the art world and academia.
Schapiro’s work can be viewed here.
